Oscars: ‘Aquaman,’ ‘Avengers’ and More Advance in VFX Race

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the 20 films that will advance in this year’s visual effects Oscar race. They are:
“Ant-Man and the Wasp”
“Aquaman”
“Avengers: Infinity War”
“Black Panther”
“Bumblebee”
“Christopher Robin”
“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”
“First Man”
“Incredibles 2”
“Isle of Dogs”
“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”
“Mary Poppins Returns”
“Mission: Impossible – Fallout”
“Mortal Engines”
“The Nutcracker and the Four Realms”
“Paddington 2”
“A Quiet Place”
“Ready Player One”
“Solo: A Star Wars Story”
“Welcome to Marwen”
The Academy’s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee determined the preliminary list of films eligible for further awards consideration. Later this month, the committee will select a shortlist of 10 films that will advance to nominations voting.

'Crazy Rich Asians,' 'Black Panther' Among Nominees for AARP's Movies for Grownups Awards

AARP will present its 18th annual Movies for Grownups Awards on Feb. 4 in Beverly Hills with M AARP The Magazine   announced the nominees for its 18th annual Movies for Grownups Awards today and among the standouts are three nominations for Jon Chu's   Crazy Rich Asians , a pair of nods for Ryan Coogler's   Black Panther  and a surprise four nominations for Kenneth Branagh's   All is True,  a film that had not yet gained much traction during awards season.  The latter pic — Branagh's take on the final days of William Shakespeare — scored mentions for best director, best supporting actress (Judi Dench), best supporting actor (Ian McKellen), and best grownup love story. Shane van Gisbergen wins in Newcastle as Scott McLaughlin runs out of fuel

Shane Van Gisbergen was looking to win his second Supercars title this weekend. Shane van Gisbergen won an incredible race over Scott McLaughlin at the Newcastle 500 on Saturday with Scott McLaughlin running out of fuel on the last lap. It looked as if McLaughlin had done enough to win the race and edge closer to winning this year's title as he had a six-second lead over van Gisbergen with a few laps to go. But around the last few corners of the final lap McLaughlin significantly slow and at the hairpin van Gisbergen was past him.
